Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of human disease. Their aim is to develop, faster, more efficient, and less invasive diagnostics that lead to better patient outcomes.
Opem Security is delighted to announce our continued sponsorship with worthy charity, Medical Detection Dogs (MDD) for the second year in a row. The charity remains at the forefront of research in the fight against diseases like cancer, Parkinson’s disease, malaria and bacterial infections.
Inspired by MDD commitment to developing life-changing medical advancements and care, as well as being incredibly fond of the four-legged friends, Opem were compelled to support the charity in any way that we were able.
Our support contributes toward the training and day to day care of the Bio Detection Dogs. These highly trained dogs are skilled in detecting diseases, through their acute sense of smell, in human samples in the charity’s training room.
Medical Detection Dogs, Community Fundraiser, Carolyn Green, states.
“Having the support of Opem will allow us to train even more dogs to save lives using their amazing noses. These fluffy biosensors with waggy tails could be the key to fast, reliable, less invasive diagnosis of some of the world’s most deadly diseases and we are very grateful for the support.”
Utilising the science behind canine olfaction, the charity also trains Medical Alert Assistance Dogs to detect minute changes in an individual’s personal odour triggered by their disease. The dogs are able to alert the individual to an impending medical event, helping them manage complex, life-threatening medical conditions and improving their quality of life.
Opem were overwhelmed with the charity’s contribution to medical advancements and will continue to track their success.
Medical Detection Dogs rely on the support of its volunteers, so if you too would like to support the charity please get in touch here.
