This week is Carers Week (8-14 June) and Opem want to not only thank all carers for their hard work, but also raise awareness of the support they need.
Figures released this week show an estimated 4.5 million people in the UK have become unpaid carers as a result of the pandemic. With the 9.1 million unpaid carers already caring prior to the outbreak, the total of unpaid carers is now 13.6 million.
Most of these people don’t identify themselves as carers. They just see themselves as spouses, parents, children or friends. This means that they are not connected to vital carer networks that can provide them with information and support.
